北京，12月2日──
兩名天安門廣場學生領袖在週三（1998年12月2日）開始進行絕食抗爭，以抗議對於異議份子新一波的圍捕，但北京態度嚴厲，並抨擊美國之外來的干涉。
北京官員總是說”這是內政問題，其他國家不得干預”，這種聲明又回來了。
稍早，美國嚴厲批評這些羈押，”我們把他從事這種受國際人權文書保障有自由基礎的和平運動而遭羈押，當成嚴重錯誤的一步”魯賓補充。
另一方面，台灣有人權與動物權，來自夏威夷慈善協會主席潘蜜拉．伯恩斯（Pamela Burns）的信，提到：
“我們想向您與台灣人民表達對於這個最近通過的動物保護法最誠摯的恭賀，這對於在台灣人道對待動物是很重要的一步，我們最近很榮幸在夏威夷提供對台灣動保專家的訓練，我們對於他們懇切的學習與投入改善動物福利印象非常深刻，我們對於屏東科技大學、中華民國環保署、美國慈善協會、國際慈善協會、夏威夷慈善協會努力地合作感到驕傲，我知道我們在一起，就能對台灣動物的生存產生改變。”
基於上述理由，台灣是值得支持的。
關於中共境內民主派異議人士，「華盛頓人權觀察」／亞洲執行長麥克．傑德切（Mike Jendrzejczyk）認為徐文立被逮捕情況相當不妙，尤其在排除任何往多元政治前進舉動的人大委員長，中國前總理李鵬發表專訪後。

Beijing, Dec. 2 ---
Two former Tiananmen Square student leaders began a hunger strike on Wednesday (Dec. 2, 1998) to protect against a new round-up of dissidents. But Beijing took a harsh line, and in a swipe at the United States' warned against foreign interference.
Beijing officer always said that "This is an internal matter and other nations should not interfere" the statement returned.
Earlier, the United States sharply criticized the detentions. "We view his detention for peaceful exercising fundamental freedoms guaranteed by international human rights instruments as a serious step in the wrong direction" Rubin added.
On the other hand; Taiwan have human rights and animal rights also. The letter come from Pamela Burns President Hawaiian Humane Society, said that:
" We would like to offer our most sincere congratulation to you and the people of Taiwan for the recent passage of the Animal protection law. It is very important step toward the humane treatment of animal in Taiwan. We recently had the honor of providing training to Taiwanese animal care professionals in Hawaii. We were must impressed with their sincere desire to learn and commit to improving the welfare of animals. We are proud of the cooperative efforts between the National Pintung University of Science and Technology, the Republic of China Environmental Protection Administration, the Humane Society of the United States Humane Society International, and the Hawaiian Humane Society, I know together, we can make a difference in the lives of animal in Taiwan."
On above reasons; Taiwan is worth supporting.
For concerning about pro-democracy dissidents of communist China, Mike Jendrzejczyk, Washington director of Human Rights Watch / Asia, viewed Xu's arrest as particularly ominous following a published interview in which parliamentary chairman Li Peng, mainland China's former Prime Minister, ruled out any move toward great political pluralism.
